Masai Mara

The Big Five

Of the 24 national parks in Kenya, Masai Mara is the most rewarding, unforgettable, and spectacular. Our group has curated a long-lasting and beautiful relationship with the park and its many inhabitants (those with fur and those without)! If you are familiar with safari tours in Kenya, you will surely be on the lookout for “The Big Five”, and you will not be disappointed with YouHop Safari Adventures. The Big Five are the five animals our customers are determined to see during their tours: rhinos, buffalo, leopards, lions, and elephants. While these guys should absolutely be at the top of your list, don’t forget about the other amazing creatures you will get to see during our adventure.

Masai Mara is a bountiful national reserve in Africa that is home to almost 90 species of mammals including zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, wildebeest, hippos, monkeys, and many more. Not to mention the 500 different bird species that can be seen soaring overhead or high up in the tree tops. Whatever you are hoping to see here in what the locals refer to as “the Mara”, you will be blown away by this experience.

Masai Mara National Reserve is the most popular wildlife park in Kenya mostly due to the spectacular Great Migration between the months of July and October when thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and giraffes migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Northern Tanzania. These animals trek through the plains of Africa to cross the Mara River and end up in the lush grass of Kenya. While this would be a great time to book one of our tours, any time of the year will guarantee amazing views, sightings, and photos.

  1. Hello everyone! I visited Masai Mara in September of 2017 and it was absolutely spectacular. I did the full 3 day tour with YouHop Safari Adventures and could not believe how friendly, knowledgeable, and fun the tour guides were! I highly recommend anyone interested in Kenya, safari tours, seeing the Big 5, or embarking on an awesome adventure to come to Masai Mara during the migration and sign up for one of YouHop’s tours. They truly made our time there so special. The herds of wildebeest and zebra was a sight I will never forget! 10/10 experience, comfort, safety, and most importantly, FUN! Thanks again YouHop staff and we hope to be back soon.

  2. I don’t usually leave reviews on sites like yelp, or google reviews. But I would be silly if I didn’t post a comment on the blog about the Big Five – I have always wanted to see elephants and leopards in their natural habitat. While I have been to several zoos over the years with my children, it made me feel incredibly sad to see these beautiful creatures locked in cages with little space to roam free. I wanted to see them in their natural element, where they are meant to be. I am SO euphoric that I was able to do this with the help of YouHop’s amazing tour guides. I did the full day tour and was able to see all 5 animals of “The Big Five” and many more! I regret not coming during the great migration so did not see the huge crowds of wildebeest. I will have to come back for it because it seems amazing!

    My best to YouHop,

  3. Chris here! I wanted to mention something I learned on my tour back in June of 2020. The guide told me that Masai Mara is the only National Park in Kenya with an indigenous black rhino population – my buddies and I were able to see quite a few during our 3 day safari and it was incredible! Out of all of the parks and safari tours out there, YouHop in the Masai Mara was so unique and special for all of us and made our trip unforgettable. You must add “See Big 5 in Masai Mara” to your bucket list!!!!

Ole sere! (“Goodbye” in Maasai, the language of the ethnic tribe living in Masai Mara)
